About Us
We founded Prevalent Projects in 2018, in Mill Valley, California.
Part-modern home store and part-design studio, we specialize in a warm modern aesthetic with nods to design traditions from Scandinavia and Japan. Over the years we’ve built a curated selection of furniture and home decor from around the world.
Every piece we bring to Prevalent Projects is created to be long-lasting, through a combination of evergreen design, expert craftsmanship, and durable, non-toxic materials. We’re proud to work with brands that share our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Who we are
Prevalent Projects was founded by Julia and Floyd Albee.
Julia's background in photography — with work featured in Vogue, InStyle, and Shape — trained her eye for composition and detail. As principal buyer, she channels that sensibility into curating pieces defined by simple beauty and enduring craftsmanship.
Floyd studied architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and contributed to the Disney Concert Hall alongside Frank Gehry before spending 25 years in production design worldwide. The combination of architectural rigor and cinematic vision now shapes his work as principal designer, across major commercial projects and residences alike.
Together, Floyd and Julia bring a considered sensibility to every space — rooted in the traditions of quality and simplicity.
We practice addition through subtraction.
We believe that a space becomes more — more enjoyable, more beautiful, more functional — when you remove what doesn't belong. Every piece in our collection is chosen because it earns its place: in craftsmanship, in proportion, in the artful presence it brings to a room. And each space we design is shaped by the same discipline.
We are rooted in Japanese and Danish design.
These two traditions — separated by geography, united by philosophy — share a deep reverence for craftsmanship, intentionality, and the beauty of things made to last. We've traveled around the world to experience that ethos firsthand: visiting artisan studios, meeting the makers, and understanding the principles behind the objects we carry.
The result is a collection of handcrafted pieces built for generations, not seasons. And an approach to interior design that treats every element as both functional and quietly beautiful.
We design and curate with health in mind.
Your home should be as healthy as it is beautiful... and this one is personal. Julia's own sensitivity to toxic chemicals shapes the way we think about materials — from the items we feature to the furniture we make ourselves. Our bench-made California collection is built using nontoxic materials, fabrics, and finishes, and we actively seek out brands that share that commitment.
We are drawn to earth-made materials.
We believe nature is the finest designer. In fact, we have built our entire curatorial and design approach around that conviction. The pieces in their collection are chosen for how natural materials look, feel, and live over time. And in the interiors they design, those same materials become the foundation — bringing warmth, texture, and a quiet vitality that no trend can replicate.
